Mound City (Published Version)
2015. Pen on paper. 310mm x 490mm (publication size).
Based on 12 days' travel by car and on foot, 13 – 25 June, 2015.
Mound City is one of two works commissioned by the Gateway Foundation in 2015 for Please Touch, a 184pp monograph documenting two decades of the foundation’s public art contributions to the city of Saint Louis.
Undertaken over 12 days in 2015, the project required that I familiarize myself with routes between 21 sites and 29 artworks across the city. I had no previous experience with St. Louis, and clocked up 680 odometer miles and untold hours on foot building up this mental map of the city. The second work in the set is Citygarden, a map of the sculpture garden they built in the center of St. Louis.
Please Touch was designed and subedited by Sarah Newitt and Kristen Malone of Kiku Obata & Company, and published by Prestel (2016).
Both drawings were significantly pared of their annotations and anecdotal content for publication in the book. The unedited works cannot be published or linked-to for contractual reasons.
Please Touch is available directly from the The Gateway Foundation.
